Discoveries In Brass
From brassing comes a multitude of rewards but like what one couple engaged in this activity will tell you there are a lot of obstacles involved in this hobby. To know what brassing is the key is to ask them as politely as possible. In brassing, you are taking the images of the flat metal figures commonly seen in tombs, images in stones in churches, and other decorative pieces from 13th to 17th Century England and transfer them on paper to reproduce works of art that are ideal for exhibits. Further your knowledge on paintings at photo to artwork.
The process doesn't sound difficult, but the couple insists that it is. Just about a year ago was when the couple was moved to an Air Force base after they stayed in England for four years. When it comes to their hobby of collecting antiques, this couple has been able to acquire antique dishes, utensils, furniture, and other things. This is not an ordinary thing in most parts of the United States but in England brassing was popular and the couple grew fond of it when they were there.
Either engraved flat brass portraits were placed on tombs or the floors of the nearby churches during the 13th Century as a way for the upper class English to honor their dead. So that an image could be copied, special black paper is used and then as it is placed over the brasses a special gold colored wax bar is rubbed against it.
Following the ridges in the brass the wax rubs off on the paper recreating a certain image. Besides having 200 paper images with them,, the couple also brought a duplicate brass from the original monument. Treasured most by the couple was the brass of Sir John d' Abernon who died in 1277 in battle. A couple of months early is what it takes to book an appointment when it comes to taking rubbings off of this earliest known brass. For more information on paintings check out abstract oil painting modern.
For the couple, they noticed how only the people who had experience were allowed by the Vicars in charge of the brasses to duplicate brasses. There has been much reluctance from the English because several Americans went there and made duplicates of the brass and then sold them in New York for $2,000 each so now everyone needs to sign a waiver promising not to sell the duplicates they make.
When it comes to the remaining monuments from the large number originally put down from 1250 to 1650 8,000 are left. The tracing of the development of armor, clothing, and lifestyle by the historians has been a possibility after these brasses made it possible for the clues from the monuments to be revealed. From these came about information that included a lion pictured at the feet of a knight means that he died in battle as well as a hound at someone's feet meant that he liked to hunt with dogs.
Art is catching up in the US and so there are only a few brasses that exist in the country. Recreating etchings on tombstones, decorative engravings, and manhole covers can be accomplished through rubbing. The couple needed four hours to finish the rubbing of Sir d' Abernon but it is still an enjoyable hobby. Asked from the couple by several schools and art shows is that they display their rubbings.
A quiet revolt in the military?
From news stories and other bits and pieces I've noticed over the last year or two, including the 'accidental' nuke transport story last year, I'm tempted to think there is a quiet rebellion going on in the Pentagon against the White House. An under-the -radar palace revolt with top career military brass flat-out refusing Executive branch directives. CentCom Commander Fallon famously said that an attack on Iran wouldn't happen on 'His watch', an amazing statement for a serving officer. He soon retired, almost certainly under White House pressure. Other top military commanders have been outspoken on Admin. policy to a level I've never seen. Carrier groups are now gathering in the Gulf. Could a command to attack Iran lead to open rebellion, or has the revolt been crushed?
You are not going to get any accurate answer from a Right Winger that never even suspected that Bush is an idiot. I only hope the Russians are smart enough to pause long enough for Bush to be retired back to his play room in Texas.
