I just did this. I went to a home improvement store nearby (Menard's or Lowe's) and bought some spray enamel paint and also some frosting spray for glass. Tape off the glass or places that you don't want painted and do a few coats. Make sure to do in a well ventilated area. It is summer right now, so outside on a non-windy day is perfect.
We have also bought spray paint that creates a faux hammered look in copper. It looks fantastic on our door knob plates and hinges. Get creative.
