Singing Vocal Health

When you're learning to sing, it's going to happen sometime, so you may as well know your options. You are going to catch that cold or sore throat and you have to know how to deal with it. Follow this advice to take care of that sore throat when the time comes.

Try to avoid nasal sprays

There are nasal sprays that contain certain elements that can actually become addictive and cause more problems. You may find that you need to use these sprays, but try to refrain from it as much as possible.

Drinking  water with medication helps.

Most of the over-the-counter medications cause you to dry out. If you are ready for this and make sure to hydrate yourself, you won't have a big problem.

Nasal Saline Spray

If you have an infection, then your body will attempt to take care of the problem by expelling the germs nasally. Using the spray when you're sick means you need to be careful not to get all your germs on the nozzle of the bottle and then put the lid on only to have the germs welcome you back the next time you use the spray. You don't want the bottle to get the cold germs, so make sure you keep it slightly away from your nose when you spray.

Steam it up with a humidifier

A humidifier will help to keep moisture in the air during the winter when you have your heater on. To keep it from growing mold, rinse it out every day. You should keep it running as much as possible, but it would be best to turn it off if you find too much condensation on your windows.

Mucus Thinning

If you suffer from postnasal drip, you probably have mucus that's too thick. To dry out your mucus, you should seek saline, or other medications from your doctor.

If you use throat lozenges, use the non sweetened variety

Use throat lozenges to help with those coughs from a dry throat. Most lozenges are just candy. If you can find lozenges without sugar then you will be much better off because you won't have as many dental problems. Beware of lozenges with menthol, which can dry out your throat.

why is it the nozzle tip of the bunsen burner is narrower than the air inlet?

Interesting observation. This is a question of the momentum of the stream of gas flowing up from the base. The air vents draw air in using the 'Venturi effect'. That is to say that there is a negative pressure generated by the gas stream flowing past these vents. This negative pressure is a modest one, compared to the positive pressure of the gas flow. The nozzle, of course, is 'in line' with the flow of the gas, and so the pressure is clearly a positive one.
